The Changing View: Accounting for Seasons in Visual Impact Assessment

The natural landscape undergoes seasonal shifts that can greatly alter visibility and aesthetic conditions. In landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA), it's often necessary to photograph viewpoints in both leaf-on and leaf-off seasons.

Summer vegetation can heavily filter or screen views compared to winter. Planning guidelines may require winter and summer photography to illustrate these differences.

Project timing affects feasibility, so seasonal photography needs advance planning. We often obtain shots in multiple seasons proactively to support assessment needs.

The variability even within a season can also be significant during events like drought or severe storms. Photography over time shows our dynamic, living landscape.
