The Cuban Square - SCENE/SEEN
The main design principles directing the proposals focus on originality, function, and sustainability through:
bringing Havana’s rich cultural and historic diversity to life through the design;
creating connections between the square and its context;
activating social life and public space;
use of local materials.
The purpose of Scene/Seen is to transform the public square so that it is experienced in a way that activates the place but also celebrates its history. Bringing people to the square is the ultimate goal, for the plaza to be seen in a new positive way – as a new landmark in the heart of Havana.
Framed by the monuments of Cuban revolutionary heroes, Civic Square lies in the heart of Havana, surrounded by buildings of national importance such as Biblioteca Nacional „José Martí”, Teatro Nacional de Cuba, as well as a number of ministry units.
